episode #240 – Is This It

We can’t believe it’s been a decade since The Strokes uttered their famous statement/question(?), [wikipop]Is This It[/wikipop], and Stereogum has issued a downloadabe tribute album that is worth a bit of a listen. As such, we hear a couple of the stronger tracks in the collection by [wikipop]Peter Bjorn & John[/wikipop], and [wikipop search=”Real Estate (band)”]Real Estate[/wikipop], (the former having recently released a new disc, and the latter putting out a follow-up to their 2009 self-titled debut this fall).

Also this week, some new music from other bands releasing albums this fall: [wikipop search=”M83 (band)”]M83[/wikipop], [wikipop]Dum Dum Girls[/wikipop], and locals [wikipop]Ohbijou[/wikipop] (who will also be playing This Ain’t Hollywood on September 28th).

And since that Dum Dum Girls track sounds like an unabashed rip off of [wikipop]Mazzy Star[/wikipop]’s 1994 hit “Fade Into You,” we end with a trippy cover over that song by Vancouver’s the Western Magnetics.
